Last month clothing chain American Apparel launched a ‘next big thing’ competition to find a US size 12-14 (UK size 16-18) model to celebrate the launch of their new XL range. On ny mag.com : the story about performance artist Nancy Upton, winner are you the next big thing of American Apparel.
She explains: “I don’t believe that beauty should be qualified as BECAUSE of someone’s size or IN SPITE of someone’s size. Beauty is beauty, it’s fluid, it’s objective and it doesn’t need to be justified to or by anyone.” Check out her blog: extra wiggle room: “I’m so happy to see people discussing concepts of acceptance and beauty.”
My opinion: why a big brand as American Apparel is making a BIG deal about gettin’ XL in their collection. They even should come with 2XL, 3XL, etc. Hopefully this will open more eyes for other brands!
