Wow!! Sunday was the show of Ratna Ho at Amsterdam Fashion Week and I already had some information that probably other size models would show up on the catwalk! And yes… they did! Gorgeous inbetweenies Bo and Paula, from Maxi Me Models were the 2 sizes 42 EU, 12 US who walked next to the sizes 36 EU, 6 US. For me a very emotional moment to see these gorgeous Dutch inbetweenies in this show! Finally size diversity at Amsterdam Fashion week. My opinion you hardly can see the size difference, because 42 is a ‘average size’ woman and not plus size! Ratna, you did an amazing job! This is the runway of the future!
So great, I got the chance to visit the designer backstage and asked her some questions.
Why did you show diversity in size and age? “Because it should be normal, it’s a reflection of the reality.”
But why didn’t you mentioned it before? “Because it should not be something special. It should be normal. I didn’t want the visitors came to the show with the idea to see ‘plus size’ and ‘older’ models. The one who have noticed it, have seen the diversity… if not, also great!”
Was it hard to design for women i a size 42 or up? “I am a technical designer, I know how to design in every size and every shape. I started to design in size 36 EU and made it larger afterwards into size 42 EU.
Wat about the collection? Which sizes and where can we buy it? “It will be sold online in a webshop in sizes 34 EU to size 46 EU.”

And Ratna was not the only designer who choose different sizes for her show. Also Mattijs showed some size diversity. Iris (size 38/40 EU, 8/10 US) and Ylonka (size 40/42 EU, 10/12 US and 1.87 tall) from Tjarda Models.
