EveryBODY deserves to wear a bikini!

A huge succes these fatkinis‘s designed by Gaby Fresh for Swimsuits for all, they’re already sold out in 2 days. This website only sells one-pieces, tankinis and swim dresses. So selling a bikini for plus size women is a great thing to do. I just don’t like the word fatkini, I think it’s time for the ‘inbikini‘ or just extend the normal bikini’s!

Why are bikini’s missing in larger sizes? I asked this question many, many times… already way back on my blog in June 2011 on my blog. A great thing would be to launch a bikini-line in larger sizes. ‘You don’t have to be a size 2, to wear a 2 piece’ is a fantastic statement!

But not only positive reactions exist.. there are blogs and people who say: ‘it’s better that fat people don’t wear bikini’s’. Like the Dutch website I Love Fashion news. I so disagree with this statement they have put on their Facebook page. Again telling it’s NOT done for plus size women to wear a bikini. A wrong message, specially for (young) women who read this and think it’s not ok.

My opinion is: ‘everyBODY deserves to wear a bikini‘ if you feel confident and have the guts to wear them!

It would be the same thing with the opposite: ‘really skinny people without boobs and butts can’t wear a bikini’. Like celebs as Nicole Richie or Rachel Zoe. Should we promote to be too skinny? This is not healthy… and not the right message! So if a size 42 EU/12 US already has been called plus size and too fat to wear a bikini, a size zero is waaaay too skinny?

Please, it’s a crazy world. We should stop this endless discussion! Let everyone wear what they want to wear! A bikini, a swimsuit or a burkini: I don’t care, I love them all!

We should promote size diversity, health at every size! Bikini at every size! And not everyone has a sporty, well shaped perfect body like models or athletes have.. this doesn’t mean you can’t wear a bikini…. please! Just do it! Have the guts and put on your bikini… at least, as you can find a good one!

  • I plan on getting my first bikini in a loooooong ass time this summer! (skimpy because I'm sexy as hell) I decided that life was to short and I want to wear a bikini! I'm waiting buy one though because I've been eating a lot healthier lately and loosing some weight.

  • I'm 59, and have spent most of those years overweight. I've lived through "you are such a freak there are no clothes for you" era, the "well if we must, here is a mumu to cover yourself" days, to the first few hesitant plus size outfits that barely fit, to an explosion of fashionable, well fitting clothing that makes me yearn to be young again so I can have time to wear it all. Learning to view larger bodies positvely is a similar process; I have an advantage cause I see one every day, but it's taking multiple exposure to a very different way of thinking for me to even BEGIN to understand that it is "OK" for bodies to come in all sizes. Be patient. This learning goes against decades of propoganda. It takes time for us to open our minds to a new way of seeing things. Keep up the great work. You are making a difference.

  • Well said, Edith Dohmen. I'm a size 16US, and I bought my first bikini to wear this year. It's not too skimpy (just not 'me') and it's tasteful and flattering. I can't wait to wear it. 🙂
