A huge succes these fatkinis‘s designed by Gaby Fresh for Swimsuits for all, they’re already sold out in 2 days. This website only sells one-pieces, tankinis and swim dresses. So selling a bikini for plus size women is a great thing to do. I just don’t like the word fatkini, I think it’s time for the ‘inbikini‘ or just extend the normal bikini’s!
Why are bikini’s missing in larger sizes? I asked this question many, many times… already way back on my blog in June 2011 on my blog. A great thing would be to launch a bikini-line in larger sizes. ‘You don’t have to be a size 2, to wear a 2 piece’ is a fantastic statement!
But not only positive reactions exist.. there are blogs and people who say: ‘it’s better that fat people don’t wear bikini’s’. Like the Dutch website I Love Fashion news. I so disagree with this statement they have put on their Facebook page. Again telling it’s NOT done for plus size women to wear a bikini. A wrong message, specially for (young) women who read this and think it’s not ok.
My opinion is: ‘everyBODY deserves to wear a bikini‘ if you feel confident and have the guts to wear them!
It would be the same thing with the opposite: ‘really skinny people without boobs and butts can’t wear a bikini’. Like celebs as Nicole Richie or Rachel Zoe. Should we promote to be too skinny? This is not healthy… and not the right message! So if a size 42 EU/12 US already has been called plus size and too fat to wear a bikini, a size zero is waaaay too skinny?
Please, it’s a crazy world. We should stop this endless discussion! Let everyone wear what they want to wear! A bikini, a swimsuit or a burkini: I don’t care, I love them all!
We should promote size diversity, health at every size! Bikini at every size! And not everyone has a sporty, well shaped perfect body like models or athletes have.. this doesn’t mean you can’t wear a bikini…. please! Just do it! Have the guts and put on your bikini… at least, as you can find a good one!
