This autumn’s major 19th-century fashion exhibition at Gemeentemuseum in The Hague.
Real princess
Today I was invited to have a preview at the exhibition ‘romantic fashion’: Mr Darcy meets Eline Vere at Gemeentemuseum in The Hague. As a real fashion girl, I Love these dresses from the 19th century. Dreaming of this period and wish I could wear these dresses…. feeling like a real princess.
19th-century fashion
Rustling silk, breathtaking embroidery, frills and flounces, vast crinolines. Sharply tailored suits for dandies and elegant ball gowns for ladies. This autumn’s major 19th-century fashion exhibition features 120 costumes from the time of Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, Eline Vere and Downton Abbey. In addition to entire costumes in all their glory, the show will include glamorous accessories, tightly laced corsets and original fashion prints and photographs.
Modern fashion
Famous examples include the magnificent embroidery of Jan Taminiau, the dandyism of Vivienne Westwood, and the (often dark) romanticism of Jean Paul Gaultier and Edwin Oudshoorn. These designers show a great translation of the 19th-century inspired fashion in this time creations.
Hair
the hair of the mannequins has been done by great Dutch hair artists. The wanted to create a 19th-century hair with a modern touch.
This dress from Jan Taminiau from the collection ‘nature extends’ is bought by the Gemeentemuseum.
You can visit this from 11-10-2014 to 22-03-2015
