‘You changed my daughter’s life, the way she feels about herself…’
COOL GIRLS IN CUTE SWIMWEAR
What will they wear for beach 2016? And more importantly, how do they want to feel? H&M celebrate the start of summer together with a team of talented, beautiful and smart women. And one of them is Nadia Aboulhosn.
H&M had a talk with Nadia Aboulhosn, she’s featured on their website.
“When I started blogging it was just a way to express myself. I would just literally wear anything that made me feel good at the moment. Then I started to see that it was affecting people, and giving women something to relate to instead of just the typical beauty standards. It made me want to keep on going, keep breaking boundaries.”
DO YOU FEEL THAT YOU HAVE?
“I do. The coolest thing about blogging is how you’re able to reach an audience. You never realize how big the internet is, the amount of people you can touch and inspire. I just had a meet and greet a couple of weeks ago, and a mom came in with her 16-year-old daughter and said ‘You changed (my daughter’s) life, the way she feels about herself…’ It made me cry!”
WHAT DO YOU LOVE THE MOST ABOUT YOUR BODY?
“I can’t say my ankles because it sounds really weird, but I really love my ankles! (laughs) And I love my legs. I would say my legs. And my eyebrows, but they’re not really a body part!”
HAVE YOU ALWAYS BEEN CONFIDENT AND COMFORTABLE WITH THE WAY YOU LOOK?
“Yes I have, since I was a kid. I think it has a lot to do with parenting. And also, I am part Lebanese, and my body isn’t out of the norm of those beauty standards. I have never really felt like an outcast. It wasn’t until I got into this career that I felt I was different. No one really pointed it out until my blog became popular.”
SO HAS MODELING CHANGED YOUR PERCEPTION OF YOUR BODY?
“Yeah, I’ll pick at myself for certain things that I wouldn’t before. Like, ‘I want a bigger upper lip’ – but then I see someone with lip injections and I am like, wait a second, I am so cute already… (laughs) I don’t want to get caught up in that whirlwind.”
WHAT IS YOUR END GAME?
“The goal isn’t to be a model – my main goal is to be a designer. But I can’t draw whatsoever! So I try to build a presence, and then convince brands to collaborate with me and let me design for them. So far, it works.”
WHAT IS YOUR ULTIMATE SUMMER?
“I grew up in Florida, and the beaches there are stunning. We used to have barbecues at the beach, and they’re probably my favorite summer memories. I want to go back home for 4th of July this year. And I want to go to Ireland, too. I haven’t been, but I heard it’s amazing.”
