Tim Gunn is saying the same things as me, the message I’ve been shouting out into this world since my blog has been online: “Hello fashion industry: WAKE UP!” Remember Tim Gunn? He was mentor at Project Catwalk. “When I’m working in the real world with real women and we’re shopping, we find that fashion seems to end when you get any larger than a size 12,” Gunn told Huffington Post,. “How ridiculous is that?”
There’s still the idea of designing for ‘average sizes’ or larger than a size 42 EU, 12 US seems to be very hard. It’s like the designers see ‘us’ as ‘aliens’ of another ‘extra ordinary group’. But we are the same as women in size 36 or 38 EU, 6 or 8 US. Women who aren’t able to look ‘high end’ fashion, have to cover themselves with ‘blankets with sleeves’…? Because this 12 US size up, she’s not a plus size woman. No, she’s an average size and wants to be able to shop in every shop her friend with size 6 US is shopping in.
Tim Gunn: “Go to Lord & Taylor on Fifth Avenue, I think it’s the eighth floor, and it’s just a department called ‘Woman.’ It’s rather devastating. You’ve never seen such hideous clothes in your entire life. I mean, it’s simply appalling. Thank God there are no windows on that floor, because if I were a size 18, I’d throw myself right out the window [after seeing those clothes]. It’s insulting what these designers do to these women.”
Tim about sizes 42, 44 and 46 EU/sizes 12, 14 and 16 US: “I think we should just be honest about these sizes and not try to pretend they are something that they’re not,” Gunn argued.
And so funny Tim talks about Andrej Pejic, a male model who walks women’s runway shows. “The designers love him because he doesn’t have any hips,” Gunn lamented, “and women aren’t going to look like that.”
I tell everyone all the time… OR designers choose to use ‘real sizes’ with real feminine shapes, OR they have to choose drag queens… no hips, no tits!
Tim, It’s time to meet each other and have a coffee together! We have the same message and the same goals! And I can speak German, if that’s more comfy for you! Hahah…
